I think children would really enjoy this book。 The illustrations use so many colors that definitely catch reader’s eyes。 Deborah Diesen uses lots of rhymes in the story as well。 The Pout Pout Fish is about a pouty fish who swims throughout the ocean and many sea creatures try to get him to become happier but he refuses to, until he meets one special fish。 I would recommend this to teachers because I think this book is both educational and entertaining at the same time。

The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen follows a fish that has a negative outlook about himself。 Since he is so negative about himself, other fish do not care to be around him。 One fish then comes out and kisses him, changing his outlook。 He realizes that he is a kissing fish。 The fish that kissed him made him change his negative ideas to positive ideas。 This book does a great job teaching the lesson that having a positive outlook will change your attitude。 The vibrant illustrations do a great job The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen follows a fish that has a negative outlook about himself。 Since he is so negative about himself, other fish do not care to be around him。 One fish then comes out and kisses him, changing his outlook。 He realizes that he is a kissing fish。 The fish that kissed him made him change his negative ideas to positive ideas。 This book does a great job teaching the lesson that having a positive outlook will change your attitude。 The vibrant illustrations do a great job at showing emotions。 。。。more
Chloe Goodman,
The Pout-Pout Fish is about a fish who is always unhappy and constantly has a frown on his face。 The other fish in the ocean ask him why he is so unhappy all the time and he claims that is just the way he is。 When the fish is kissed unexpectedly, his frown turns into a glimmering smile。 This story teaches readers how happiness can be found even in situations when it seems impossible to smile!!
Rich Farrell,
This was a gift to E。 and while I have read others in the series, I never actually had read the original。 This was a lot of fun as a read aloud with opportunities to make faces and pop a quick “smooch” on his cheek at the end。 He liked the different fish (for whatever reason, we seem to be exposing him to a lot of sea creatures recently in books and posters), and I liked the book overall。 I “get” why this series is so popular now。
Ivy,
I checked this book out of my school's library but it proved to be a little too hard for me to read, so mum read it to me。 I liked it。 I checked this book out of my school's library but it proved to be a little too hard for me to read, so mum read it to me。 I liked it。 。。。more
Lacy,
This was a cute book that my daughter got for Christmas。 She also, got the Pout-Pout fish stuffed animal to go with the book, so that really helped to illustrate the story。 I pretended the stuffed animal was reading the story, and both of my kids loved that。 They laughed so much at the pout face。 This book has colorful illustrations, and a cute, rhyming story。 This is a fun read for little ones。
Stacey,
Seriously cute。 I hope my 2 month old daughter likes this when she gets a bit older because I really loved reading it to her tonight。 ❤️
Grant and momma,
Nice sing song feel, but ultimately about rbf and a kiss from a stranger to put somewhat of a smile on his face。
Stefanie Bevins,
This is such a cute book。 My almost 2 year old son really likes when I read it。 I can't help but do a silly voice when he says he's a pout pout fish 🤣 It is a cute story and it has great illustrations! Jennifer Griffin,
This book is a classic for a reason! There is much to be said for how much a smile can change your whole demeanor and how one nice gesture from someone can change your whole outlook。 This picturebook also employs great use of onomatopoeia and internal rhyme as well as great attention to detail in the number of syllables per line which allows the person reading this book chant the book in rhythm and easily change voices for all of the characters, making this a perfect read aloud book。 Diesen and This book is a classic for a reason! Hubert,
Cool! Nice, good rhymes, good rhythms, good story!
Jake Toplitt,
This is a goddamn masterpiece
Mackenzie Nelson,
This is a favorite of my 1。5 year old who enjoys the reputation and “blub bluuub bluuuuubs”。 I too enjoy this story and the rhymes are very good and funny。 however the trope of needing another fish to make you happy is harmful and where is the consent? You can’t go around planting kisses on the pout of any stranger you see moping around。 Also the fish are ugly。 Has the illustrator seen a fish?
Cherish Brown,
(5☆ Would recommend & would read again)This is one of my kids' all time favorite books。 The repetition gives something for the kids to look forward to。 My kids are still learning to talk, but the repetition helps them engage in this book, but they know certain parts from hearing it over and over again。 (5☆ Would recommend & would read again)This is one of my kids' all time favorite books。 The repetition gives something for the kids to look forward to。 My kids are still learning to talk, but the repetition helps them engage in this book, but they know certain parts from hearing it over and over again。 。。。more

Haveyoureadthat,
Such a cute fun book to share with your little。 Savanna’s favorite part (based on the huge smile on her face) is when pout pout fish discovers he’s a kiss kiss fish。 Language skills to address with this book include wh-questions, sequence of events, story retell, vocabulary, and sentence expression。
C,
My child enjoys having this book read, but what a creepy ending! The fish had a grumpy personality or was generally sad or introverted but only needed to start approaching other sea creatures and kissing them uninvited to become fulfilled。 Eek!
Rachel Ziebell,
Cute rhyming but I am sensitive to reading books that have kissing without consent。 It is hard to teach kids one thing then read another。
Lori Lynn Tucker,
To represent all the read aloud picture books with the kids this year。

Jon,
I get it—depression。 But damn, this book gets weird with the kiss-kiss fish。 Like: nah dawg, this ain’t how you ~cure~ depression。 The rhymes and rhythm is good enough, and the BLUB BLUUUUUUB BLUUUUUUUUUUBs are funny (Rowan’s way into those right now), and his “friends” aren’t exactly helpful (big Book of Job vibes), but these anthropomorphized sea animals have a troubling uncanny look to em。 And depression ain’t solved by some hot chick fish rollin up and kissing you。 No sir, it’s weird。 Don’t I get it—depression。 But damn, this book gets weird with the kiss-kiss fish。 Like: nah dawg, this ain’t how you ~cure~ depression。 The rhymes and rhythm is good enough, and the BLUB BLUUUUUUB BLUUUUUUUUUUBs are funny (Rowan’s way into those right now), and his “friends” aren’t exactly helpful (big Book of Job vibes), but these anthropomorphized sea animals have a troubling uncanny look to em。 And depression ain’t solved by some hot chick fish rollin up and kissing you。 No sir, it’s weird。 Don’t know why people like this book。 Heck, Rowan only just started to like it because of the blubs。 Kinda wish he’d just forgotten it was there。 Parent fail。 。。。more

i love the pout pout fish。 one star lost simply because some of its lessons won’t hold under harsh grown up scrutiny but it still slaps。
